korea 2015

Hello! Back from Korea after spending 8 days there (6-14 June)

Our first three days were spent at Jeju island - a nice place if you are one for nature and exploring.
We had half a day left of our first day there as we only reached at about 12+pm after flying from Seoul.
Our room :D

Visited Jeongbang Falls (정방폭포) the next day :-)
(Finally tried long exposure on a waterfall !! :-) but was tripod-less that day)

Our next stop was Sunrise Peak/Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak (성산일출봉), on the eastern seaboard of Jeju island. Sunrise Peak is a 182 metres tall volcanic cone and is also a UNESCO world heritage site. It was raining and all foggy when we visited (we weren't blessed with good weather /crey) - but the view would be even more worth it on a clear day haha oh well :-(

At the peak -
Made it to the top !!

Descent

Our next stop was Mazeland (biggest stone maze in the world !!) and we got lost in it for like 2 hours or something LOL we were so wet when we got out of there
Mazerunners (close enough)

The stone maze that got us stuck there for so long HAHA

Tried to photograph the night sky back in the hotel room but it wasn't good because the sky was cloudy (weather wasn't good /i crie everytiem) but if you're interested in photographing the Milky Way and stars/night sky you can read up here (thanks to Yi Wei for sharing!! hehe) :-) Hope I'll have better luck next time zz
Jeju's night sky
(had to edit it to bring out the stars because they were not obvious in the original shot heh open the image in Lightbox to see it more clearly !!)

On our third day there, our first stop was the Oedolgae Rock (외돌개)
Oedolgae Rock
(they say a grandma was waiting for her husband who went fishing and never returned and she eventually turned into this rock)

We then paid the Seogwipo Submarine a visit but it wasn't worth the money and time as we didn't see much lel only walls and walls of rock -
Mount Hallasan above the clouds - this is the tallest mountain in South Korea

Saeyeongyo Bridge

I didn't take any nice pictures on the submarine so here's Evelyn :-)

We visited Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff (주상절리(대포동지삿개). The highlight of this place would probably be the many naturally-formed rock pillars that are shaped like hexagons - also called Jisatgae Rocks :-)

The fourth place we visited was Andeok Valley (안덕계곡)
Grandpa stone statue; probably the most iconic symbol of Jeju :-)

Our next stop was Aewol Beach and we saw a drama being filmed (with Kang Sora ! idk who she is but ok it was cool)
I found this setting quite interesting :-)

Volcanic Rock; one of the special things about Jeju

People who visit the beach have a certain talent of rock-stacking

The final stop for us was Cheonjeyeon Falls (천제연폭포), a three-tier waterfall.
Are we dancers yet? HAHA

On our last (half a) day in Jeju, I got up early with my family to catch the morning light :D
2 dogs that stay in the house beside our hotel/homestay !! very adorable

We had a flight back to Seoul in the afternoon and by the time we reached our apartment it was late afternoon (4+pm I think) so we couldn't do much
Our Airbnb apartment :-)

Spent our first evening/night on a tour bus which took us around the city, and we got a glimpse of the busy nightlife in Seoul :-)
A view of the sunset from one of the many bridges that cross the Han river

Our second day at Seoul was spent at Everland theme park (에버랜드), South Korea's largest theme park \o/ (this was probably one of the most enjoyable days in Seoul)
Line friends
T-express!! Probably the highlight of Everland

There was a zoo in the theme park itself !!! amazing
(Friendly?) Brown Bear that came super close to our bus hehe

There were a lot more but I couldn't get clear shots/the animal showed us its butt HAHA (especially the lions zz) + will update when I get more photos hehe

BABY FENNEC FOX !!! ahhhh

This little guy was still in diapers aww i crie this is adorable (+ makes me want to adopt a pet)

Lion cub ! It's not everyday that we see these :-)

The third day at Seoul was spent exploring different places, one of which was Gangchon Rail Park (강촌레일파크), which is basically cycling along old railway tracks (and enjoying the scenery in the outskirts of Korea) - this was worth it!

The ride along the railway was very smooth and the weather was super cooling (would pay anything to get this weather in Singapore LOL dying bc the heat)

We had lunch at a nearby restaurant and made a trip to Nami Island (남이섬 종합휴양지) afterwards, which is a tiny crescent shaped island in the middle of a lake (this island is in the Gangwon Province :D). It is quite a nice place (especially if you are one for nature!) and I wished we could have spent more time there but ok cool
Watching people do the fly fish in the lake (brings back Boracay memories lel)!!

The famous Winter Sonata trees
Happy birthday to my mum!!
Ginkgo Tree Lane (you should see it in autumn!)

Maple tree garden!!

Our last stop of the day was Petite France (inspired by the Little Prince book whose plot I didn't really understand the last time I read LOL)
qtpie hehe

Nice !

Celebrated my mom and Evelyn's birthday at Lotte Mart HAHA bc no other place to celebrate and our apartments were too small

On our fourth day, we explored the Gyeongbokgung Palace (경복궁), one of the oldest palaces. It was built in 1395, but destroyed during the Japanese Occupation (early 20th century), and efforts to rebuild the palace only began in 1990.

Then we visited the Bukchon Hanok Village (북촌한옥마을), a traditional Korean village :-)  (closest subway station is Anguk)

We crossed the road to visit the other part of the village :-)
(made out of bricks instead of wood, unlike the previous one)

Stopped by a café and ate waffles woohoo

The last place we visited that day was Haneul Park/Sky Park (하늘공원), one of the 5 parks built near the Seoul World Cup stadium (the entire thing is called the World Cup Park & the closest subway station is the World Cup station though it is quite a long walk and climb to get to the park)
Wild rabbit we saw in the fields !!

The last day in Korea was spent at Myeong-dong (명동), Seoul's shopping district.

This concludes the entire Korea trip yep I hope you like the (100+) pictures :-)
But if you're planning on visiting Korea I don't really think you should come in summer (June) because its rainy and all (Jeju island's scenery was wasted because of the weather lel - I think autumn/spring/early summer there is super nice though) + we chose the wrong timing to come bc MERS outbreak in Korea !! wow !! many luck HAHA

This trip was fun nonetheless! (will try to update this post when I get more photos :} )
See you in the next post >>>
